The improvement of physical performance with the help of pharmacological agents is an old dream of humankind. Time and again, effective substances have been used for this, substances isolated from natural plant materials or synthesised for medical purposes in order to cure states of illness. In this module you get to know the definition of doping as well as the various substance groups and the various methods that appear on the doping list.

  • Beta-2 agonists as well as hormone and metabolic modulators

  • Glucocorticoids and their position on the doping list
  • Prohibited methods: the enhancement of oxygen transport
  • Prohibited methods: manipulation of the urine sample, gene doping and beta blockers

Who the workshop suits

The workshop suits trainers, personal trainers, athletics coaches and advisers who work in the environment of female and male athletes and have to know which substances and which methods are prohibited. It is one module of the Sports Nutrition Coach training programme and can be taken on its own – including when you simply want to be prepared for informed questions about substances in the gym.

How the workshop runs

You complete the workshop online and at your own learning pace. After registration you receive the login details for the learning platform, which guides you through the content. There are no fixed dates.

  • Self-study with the course script Prohibited Substances – the sole authority for the knowledge test
  • The script also in audio format, chapter by chapter, ordered by substance group
  • Learning videos and flashcards on the topic of prohibited substances
  • Knowledge test directly on the learning platform, to be taken at any time, passed with at least 80 per cent correct answers

Once you have passed the knowledge test, the course confirmation reaches you by e-mail within 14 days. The content on the learning platform stays available to you after you have finished as well.

Which content does the prohibited substances workshop cover?

The workshop starts with the definition of doping and then works through the substance groups on the doping list one by one – from stimulants to glucocorticoids. With a knowledge test on the learning platform that you can sit at any time. You have to answer at least 80 per cent of the questions correctly. The course confirmation then arrives by e-mail within 14 days.
