Chaturanga, Plank, handstand – in Power Yoga the shoulder carries a great deal. The online workshop Shoulder Stability takes on this joint deliberately: first the anatomy, then the musculature that stabilises the shoulder blade and the upper arm, and finally the practice. You get to know exercises for sensing, mobilising and strengthening, and in the Masterclass you see how you build them into a yoga flow.
What you will learn
- The shoulder joint and the shoulder musculature in overview
- The anatomical structure of the shoulder blade and the shoulder joints
- The musculature that stabilises the shoulder blade and what it does
- The musculature that stabilises the upper arm in the shoulder
- Injuries of the shoulder – what you watch for when you teach
- Sensing the musculature covered on your own body and feeling it by touch
- Examples of how you mobilise the shoulder and increase mobility in the shoulder girdle
- Strengthening exercises for the shoulder and how they fit into your own yoga practice
- Masterclass: mobilising and strengthening postures in a yoga flow
Who the workshop is for
For yoga teachers and group fitness instructors who work a lot with weight-bearing positions in their classes and want to guide participants safely through those postures. The workshop combines anatomical knowledge with concrete exercises – afterwards you not only know which muscles stabilise the shoulder, you also have awareness, mobilisation and strengthening sequences to hand that you can build into your next class. Anyone who knows shoulder trouble from their own experience and wants to review their own practice is in the right place here too.
How the workshop runs
- After registering you receive your login details for the learning platform.
- Self-study: you read through the manual on shoulder stability – shoulder joint, stabilising musculature, injuries.
- Training videos: several videos lead from the anatomical theory into the practice. For the practical videos you need a yoga block or a thick book, two small balls (tennis balls, for example) and a yoga strap or a towel; for the strengthening part, two blocks of equal size.
- Masterclass: what you have learned is translated into a yoga flow.
- Questions: write to info@update-akademie.ch at any time.
- Completion: once you have filled in the feedback form you receive your confirmation by email.
You can start the workshop at any time and work through it at your own pace. The content stays available to you on the learning platform after you finish.
Where it leads next
A second short format from the same series goes deeper into a related topic: the Power Yoga Online Workshop Fascia with the fascial lines and the exercises that go with them. The full training is Power Yoga Instructor, and all the other short formats are listed in the overview of group fitness workshops.

For the awareness exercises you need a yoga block or a thick book and two small balls, tennis balls for example. For the mobilisation a yoga strap or a towel is added, and for the strengthening exercises two blocks of equal size.
Is the workshop only theory or practice as well?
Both. The first part of the training videos covers the anatomical structure and the stabilising musculature, the second part consists of practical exercises for sensing, mobilising and strengthening. A Masterclass turns what you have learned into a yoga flow.
