A Pump class puts the large muscle groups at the centre – and with them the questions your participants ask: when do I increase the weight? What do I have to watch in my technique? The Pump workshop gives you both: the exercises themselves and the training theory behind them, so that you can answer competently in class. The workshop consists of two manuals and two training videos and can be started at any time.

What you will learn

  • The basic exercises for the large muscle groups in Pump
  • Additional exercises with which you vary your class
  • The straight crunch as a topic of its own in the manual
  • Reasons for strength training – the arguments your participants want to hear
  • Training principles and the structure of a strength session
  • How you make strength training effective and what needs particular attention
  • When increasing the weight makes sense and what healthy training looks like
  • Important points on the technique of the exercises
  • Why the class is built and ordered the way it is

Who the workshop is for

For instructors who teach Pump or related barbell classes and want to sharpen their exercise selection and their cueing. The workshop combines the practical side – which exercise is performed and cued how – with a theory section on training science. That is particularly useful when participants regularly ask you about weight, repetitions or structure and you would rather give a well-founded answer than a rule of thumb. For trainers from the strength field who are taking on group classes for the first time, the workshop is a compact way in.

How the workshop runs

  • After registering you receive your login details for the learning platform with all the materials and videos.
  • Self-study: you work through two manuals – one on the large muscle groups with basic and additional exercises, and one on Pump theory with training principles, class structure and the key points.
  • Training videos: two videos deepen the manuals – from making strength training effective through the technique points to the principles behind structure and order.
  • Practice: you should repeat the practical parts as often as you can.
  • Questions: write to info@update-akademie.ch at any time.
  • Completion: once you have filled in the feedback form you receive your workshop confirmation.

The workshop is pure online self-study. You are not tied to any dates, you set your own pace, and the content stays available to you after you finish.

Where it leads next

The workshop is a specialisation, not an instructor training. If you want to learn to teach Pump from the ground up, the Pump Instructor training is the right route, complemented by Group Fitness Fundamentals for structuring and cueing a group class. Ready-made classes for your timetable are listed under Group Fitness Programmes, further short formats in the overview of group fitness workshops.

Frequently asked questions

Which muscle groups does the Pump workshop cover?

The focus is on the large muscle groups as they are trained in a Pump class. The manual splits them into basic exercises and additional exercises and also covers the straight crunch. The training videos go into the technique points of the exercises.

Does the workshop include theory as well?

Yes. Alongside the exercise manual there is a second manual on Pump theory with reasons for strength training, training principles, class structure and the key points. It lets you answer your participants’ questions about training science with confidence.

Do I need a Pump Instructor qualification to take part?

The workshop is designed as continuing education for instructors who teach Pump classes or would like to. You can start it online at any time and work through it at your own pace.

How do I complete the workshop?

You fill in a feedback form on the learning platform at the end. You are then sent your workshop confirmation by email.
