A strength machine is applied physics at heart: levers, forces, resistance curves. Anyone who understands this logic chooses machines and exercises more deliberately and instructs more precisely. This workshop therefore joins two sides that belong together: the biomechanics of the human body and equipment knowledge, meaning the mechanics of the machines and clean instruction on them.

What you learn

  • The basics of biomechanics in training
  • The biomechanics of the human body and the biomechanical principles of movement
  • Stress and strain: what happens in the tissue under load
  • The basics of equipment knowledge and exercise instruction
  • Instruction on the machines and the basics of movement execution
  • The mechanics of the machines and a look at the manufacturers
  • Widening your own portfolio of exercises
  • Interactive learning video on the history of fitness and strength training

Who the workshop suits

The workshop is aimed at fitness trainers and personal trainers who instruct on the training floor and want to give a physical reason for the exercises they choose. It also fits if you would like to widen your repertoire of exercises, or if you have machines from various manufacturers in your centre and want to understand how they differ mechanically.

How the workshop runs

After you register you receive the login details for the learning platform. The workshop consists of the manual on biomechanics and strength machines, the audio files for every chapter and five interactive learning videos that lead from the history of strength training through the biomechanical principles and the topic of stress and strain to instruction on the machines and their mechanics. You learn online, free of fixed times and places.

For questions you can use the email address info@update-akademie.ch or our online consultation sessions. To finish, you sit the assessment in the specially developed examination tool, at a moment of your choosing. Taking content one to one from AI output or internet sources is not permitted and is counted as a fail. After it has been marked by hand by an expert, the feedback normally follows within seven working days, and after that you receive your workshop confirmation.

Where things go from here

The content stays open to you after you finish as well. How you embed the exercises you instruct into a well thought out session is shown by The optimal design of training sessions, and the anatomical basis for it is supplied by The Musculoskeletal System. An overview of every topic is given by the Fitness workshops page. As a complete qualification with a practical component, the Fitness and Movement Trainer brings these building blocks together.

Frequently asked questions

Does the workshop deal with actual machines as well?

Yes. One part of the workshop is equipment knowledge: the mechanics of the machines, differences between manufacturers, instruction on the machines and the basics of movement execution. On top of that comes a chapter on widening your own portfolio of exercises.

Do I need prior knowledge of physics?

The workshop introduces the basics of biomechanics in training itself and goes on from there to the principles of movement. You work with the manual, the audio files and the learning videos at your own pace and can clear up open points by email or in an online consultation session.

How long do I have access to the content?

The materials stay with you on the learning platform after you have finished. With equipment knowledge that is handy, because you can look at individual chapters again later when new machines arrive in the centre.

How do I complete the workshop?

With an assessment in the specially developed examination tool. It can be taken at any time and is corrected by hand by an expert. The feedback normally follows within seven working days, and after that you receive your workshop confirmation.
